Donald was born on August 23, 1927 in Sherman City, Kansas to Adrian and Leora (Jones) Woods. He attended Sherman Grade School and graduated from West Mineral High School. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. On March 17, 1950 he married Rose Marie Nutt of rural McCune. Donald worked for Westar (formerly Kansas Gas and Electric Company) for over 25 years in the Independence, Kansas office. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Cherryvale. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Standard and her husband, Paul, of Van Buren, Ark., Mary Beth Robb and her husband, Steve, of Pittsburg, and Barbara Schachter and her husband, Eban, of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Molly Whitcraft, Matthew Isnard and Seth Schachter; three great grandchildren, Ellie, Jaxson and Garett Isnard two brothers Floyd Woods and wife Dixie of Pittsburg; Lloyd Woods and wife Joyce of Crestline; a sister, Paula Woods, of Crestline and close family friend, Russell Isnard, of Cherryvale; He was preceded in death by his wife in 2011; his mother in 1934; his father in 1974 (sic) [1975]; a three year old sister in 1937; a sister, Nadine Wilson, in 2011; his stepmother, Margaret Woods in 2003; a brother, Joe Woods, in 2002 (sic) [2001] and an infant son in 1956. A celebration of life service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17 at Brenner Mortuary with Pastor David Bennett of the First Southern Baptist Church in Cherryvale, officiating. Burial will be at Sherman Cemetery, Sherman City, Kansas at approximately 10:30 a.m. where the American Legion Post #147 Veterans Funeral Detail will provide military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Thursday. The family suggests memorials to First Southern Baptist Church, Cherryvale, KS and these may be left with the funeral home or sent to the church at 717 East 6th St., Cherryvale, KS 67335. Friends may also leave online condolences at www.brennermortuary.com.
