Despite the ravages of his disease, he never lost his faith in Jesus. He always kept a positive attitude, never feeling sorry for himself. Don was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, a hero to his kids, and a role model to all. He was born in Butte on Dec. 11, 1952, the oldest of two boys born to Elbert Fredrick and Billie Lawrence Abbey. In the summer of 1959 he moved with his family to Darby. He attended school in Darby for 12 years, graduating in 1971. He attended Western Montana College in Dillon. Donald and Jayne M. Lindquist were married in 1974. They had two children, Justin Roy and Melissa Marie. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they remained close friends. Don's working years included being a meat cutter at People's Market in Darby, employment at the Darby Lumber Mill and ranch work for his grandfathers, Fred Abbey and Bart Lawrence. He was always glad to help his father-in-law, Leonard Lindquist, on his ranch, too. Later, Don and Jayne, with partners Duane and Carolyn Quaintance, started Lost Horse Custom Cutting, cutting meat for ranchers and hunters. Don had a profound love for hunting and fishing. He was still proud he bagged the biggest animals. Don was preceded in death by his father, Elbert; grandfathers, Fredrick Abbey, Bart Lawrence and James Old; grandmothers, Georgia Abbey and Kitty Lawrence; mother-in-law, Jennie Lindquist; uncles, Floyd C. Abbey and Donald L. Abbey; and aunt, Bonnie Immonen. Survivors include his son, Justin Roy Abbey (Jamie); daughter, Melissa Marie Abbey (Mike); mother, Billie M. Abbey; brother, Delbert L. (Colleen) Abbey; aunts, Donna (Bill) Kyle, Irene Abbey, Pepita Abbey; uncle, Lloyd (Laura) Abbey; aunts, Barbara (Hollis) Coon and Capitola (Dan) Tveidt. He was very proud of his surviving grandmother, Lucy Old, who is approaching her 101st birthday. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and many, many cousins. He loved them all. Family and friends were very dear to him. He was especially close to Don and Jayne Faris, Jim and Marci Lindquist, Phil Bergren and Leonard Lindquist. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, in Daly-Leach Chapel, Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Vern Sandersfeld officiating. A reception follows the services at the church. Burial will take place in Lone Pine Cemetery in Darby. Arrangements are under the care of Daly-Leach Chapel.
