Donald George Petty was born Feb, 13, 1926 in Edna Township, Cass County, the son of Paul Ralph and Anna Grace McCurdy Petty. Don attended school at maple Valley School, southwest of Cumberland. He was a lifelong Cass County resident, living on a farm southwest of Lyman for many years before moving to the Heritage House in Atlantic three years ago. Petty Donald G. petty, 77, of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Donald George Petty was born Feb, 13, 1926 in Edna Township, Cass County, the son of Paul Ralph and Anna Grace McCurdy Petty. Don attended school at maple Valley School, southwest of Cumberland. He was a lifelong Cass County resident, living on a farm southwest of Lyman for many years before moving to the Heritage House in Atlantic three years ago. Don was a farmer for the majority of his life. He was a seasonal helper at Steinbeck Fertilizer Co. in Griswold and for the past five years did carpentry work. He served in the US Army during WW II. Don is survived by two brothers, Bill and his wife, Edie Petty of Atlantic, Paul and his wife, Rita Petty of Irvine, California; a sister-in-law, Marge Petty of West Liberty, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leo, Cleo, and Virgil Petty, and a sister, Delores Petty. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 15 at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic with Pastor Dale Kesterson officiating. Music for the service will be “Beyond the Sunset” and “Because He Lives” by Doug Durre, associate pastor. Committal services and interment of ashes will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15 at St. John’s Cemetery, south of Lyman. No visitation is scheduled.
