Don was born on April 16, 1929 the son of George F. and Josephine S. (Farris) Rockwood in Cushing, Minnesota. He graduated from Janesville Consolidated School in Janesville in 1947. Rockwood, 80, of Janesville, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Don was born on April 16, 1929 the son of George F. and Josephine S. (Farris) Rockwood in Cushing, Minnesota. He graduated from Janesville Consolidated School in Janesville in 1947. He served in the US Navy from 1947 until 1950. On August 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to Roberta E. Schmidt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. Don was employed at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls and retired from John Deere Product Engineering Center in Waterloo in 1989, after 26 years of service. He was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, member of the Waverly V.F.W. and the Equity Lodge #131. Don was an avid golfer and a skilled pinochle player and loved bass fishing. While serving in the Navy, he was a catcher in the Navy Baseball League. He also played baseball on the Janesville City Team. His winter hobby was woodworking and he presented handmade benches and doll cradles to the children who were baptized at Messiah Lutheran Church. Survivors are his wife, Roberta of Janesville, Iowa; two daughters, Brenda (Rand) Watson of Altoona, Iowa and Julie (Mark) Burkhardt of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Burkhardt Sable of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Gregory Watson of Altoona, Iowa, Holle (Chris) Maricle of DeWitt, Iowa and Gretchen Watson of Des Moines, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Rory, Soren and Beckham Maricle and Finn Burkhardt Sable. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Dottie Murray and three brothers, Royal, Squire and Rhea Rockwood. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:30 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville with Pastor Irving Sandberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Janesville. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday at the Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa with a Masonic Service at 4:00 pm visitation also one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
