Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at St. Paul's of South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger. He went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 19, 2010, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Donald was born April 11, 1932, to Clarence and Grace (Ruby) Olesen in Palo Alto County. He was baptized in May of 1932 and confirmed at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church on April 14, 1946. Soon after graduating from Graettinger High School, he was employed by Morrell's until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. After receiving a honorable discharge, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering , after which he decided to come back to Iowa and was engaged in trucking. On Aug. 5 of 1956, Don married Lucy Ann Carson and they made their home in Estherville, where he was employed by Yates Stationary and Berkley's, until he joined the Sear's store team. After Sear's closed, Don was employed by Stan Fagre to help build a dormitory for Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville. Alco beckoned Don to come to Heber Springs, Ark., where he was assistant manager for two years. Returning to Estherville, he was employed by Clinare, which manufactured handicap bath-tubs for nursing homes. After Clinare closed, Don decided to try his hand at manufacturing fiberglass underground and above ground electrical sleeves, until he retired. After retirement, he decided to be an "Ace" man, and was employed by Ace Hardware, which he really enjoyed. With his training from Sears, he could repair just about anything, and he also had a love for carpentry. With the help of family, he built three homes, plus he assisted with remodeling for whoever needed his expertise. Don is a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, a fifty-year member of the North Star Masonic Lodge #447 of Estherville, and a former member of the Isaac Walton League. Don loved to fish, hunt and thoroughly enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and friends. There are many camp-fire memories of stories told about his Navy days, and growing up on the farm, the family still enjoys reminiscing about. Don is survived by his wife, Lucy, of 53 years, and children: William and wife, Christine, daughter Megan; Rick and children, Aaron, Adam, Alex and Evan; Kimberly and sons, Kellen and Christian Bonner; Scott and wife, Michelle, son Nicholas; and Eric and wife, Jennifer, daughter Zoe. Also surviving is a great-granddaughter, Hayden Isabella Benjamin. He is also survived by his twin brother, Ronald; sister Sharon, Paul, and Patricia; many uncles and aunts; nieces; and nephews. Preceding Don in death were his parents and brothers, Richard and Robert.
