Description	:	Donald Hugo Heller, Sr., 81 years, of Fremont, NE died February 14, 2013 at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper, NE. Donald was born October 7, 1931 to Hugo & Rosie (Besmer) Heller on the family farm near Wisner, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wisner. Read More	Donald Hugo Heller, Sr., 81 years, of Fremont, NE died February 14, 2013 at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper, NE. Donald was born October 7, 1931 to Hugo & Rosie (Besmer) Heller on the family farm near Wisner, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wisner. He was a 1949 graduate of Wisner High School. Donald married Alyce Koglin on December 28, 1950 and to this union 7 children were born. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Japan. After his discharge, he started farming 160 acres south of Beemer, NE, where he raised cows, pigs and chickens. He gave up farming after 2 years of drought. He then drove truck for Steiren, out of Beemer, he helped farm and feed cattle for Junior Dinklage, drove truck for Paul Kruse and Edward Doesher at Beemer. He moved to Snyder, NE and worked for Gerwickk Construction. He then moved to Fremont and worked for Jack L. Butler Construction as a heavy equipment operator and traveled to different states with this company. He later worked for D K Meyer Construction for 35 years, as a crane operator and lived at Bennington, Fremont and Scribner, NE. He also drove truck for Bell Creek of Arlington, NE on weekends. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Churcht; V.F.W. Post #854 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 all of Fremont. Don married JoAnn Rahtz on March 2, 1985 at Hooper, NE. She died Nov. 11, 2003. He retired and traveled with JoAnn, while she worked for Walgreens. JoAnn died Nov. 3, 2003. He returned to Fremont and spent his winters in Zapata, TX. Some of Don's favorite things to do were spending time with family & friends, playing cards, fishing, camping, gardening, canning and cooking. He is survived by sons & daughters-in-law, David & Gwen Heller of Omaha, Donald Heller and Daniel & wife, Lori Heller of Elkhorn; daughters & sons-in-law, Deborah & Dean Slechta of Bennington, NE, Denise & John McDuffee of Scribner, NE, Della & Monte Davis of Omaha, Diana & Rod Lofquest of West Point; step-sons, Roy Phillips of Georgia and Steve & wife, Sue Phillips of Lincoln; step-daughter, Patti & husband, Tim Adams of Fremont; 24 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren; brothers, Milford & wife, Lois Heller of Red Oak, IA, Richard & wife, Joyce Heller of San Angelo, TX, Warren & wife, Alice Heller of Wisner and LaVern & wife, Janet Heller of Atkinson, NE; sister, Rosemary Risor & special friend, Haile of St. Paul, MN; father-in-law, Frank Wilson of Fremont; and special friend, Nona Lang. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn; sister, Carolyn Heller; son-in-law, Dale Christianson. Funeral service 10:30 AM, Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev .Dan Heuer will officiate. Visitation Monday 4 pm to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Tuesday at church 1hr prior to service. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post #854 and American Legion Post #20.
