Read More	With thanks to Jcarter (#48847489) for the additional bio information: Published in the Messenger of Truth Issue 14, 1964: Donald Irvin, son of Oliver and Pauline Esau, was born on November 2, 1951, in the Grande Prairie Municipal Hospital and departed this life on June 10, 1964 at the age of 12 years, 7 months and 8 days. He spent his short life here at Crooked Creek, Alberta, where he received his education up to the sixth grade, in the Ridge Valley school. Donny was an active boy and his cheerful disposition won him many friends, especially among his schoolmates. Tragedy struck at 7 o'clock Wednesday evening while on a picnic with the family at the Simonette River. The boys had been swimming for awhile when a cry for help was raised. Donny has slipped into deep water, and being unable to swim was soon caught by the fast current. We rushed to his rescue but all efforts failed to bring him to shore. He sank out of sight and a thorough search was staged, but his body was not recovered until four days later, approximately four miles downstream. We feel especially grateful for the generous help contributed in the search by all the neighbors and friends in this district and the surrounding area. He leaves to mourn his too early departure, his parents, three brothers and three sisters; Cameron, Gordon, Jennifer, Marlene, Lenora and Robert, all of the home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Esau; his maternal grandfather Jacob L. Toews and a host of relatives and friends. God lent you to us Donald, With us awhile to stay; Your smiles have often cheered us And brightened all our way. You left the car and ran to play, Unheeding of the treacherous deep, We wish we could have rescued you, We tried and faile; it makes us weep. You left us much too soon, dear boy, You'll be missed by many a friend; The many deeds you did for Mom, Have now come to an end. But now you're in a happy land, And when our journey here is done, We'll have a picnic on that strand, Together in that Home Sweet Home. ~ The Family ~ Funeral services were held in the Roseday Mennonite Church. Min. Dewey Unruh was in charge, using Scriptures Heb. 9:27; Matt. 19:13-15; Eccl. 12:1. Burial was made in the Rosedale Cemetery.
