St. Edward Advance 16 March 1967 DON FLAHERTY ACCIDENT VICTIM; SERVICES TODAY Donald James Flaherty was born at St. Edward, Nebr., April 25, 1921, the son of William J. and Kathryn Kiernan Flaherty. He graduated from the St. Edward high school with the class of 1938. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served four years, being stationed in England a large share of that time. He re-relisted in the Korean conflict with the US Air Force with a captain's rank. On Auust 9, 1953, he married Irene Harper of Kansas City at Kansas City. At the time of his death he was Production Director for the Department of the Navy at Los Angeles. While on a vacation trip to Mexico with his wife and another couple, they were involved in a three car accident Sunday that took his life and that of the couple with them. Mrs. Flaherty is in Tucson, Arizona with severe lacerations and a broken leg. He leaves his wife, Irene of Los Angeles; daughter, Karen Marie, 20, and son, James, 18; three brothers, Milton of St. Edward and Marvin and Max of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Margery Flaherty of Kansas City, Mrs. R.N. Holley (Marion) of Cocoa, Florida and Mrs. Pat Torraco (Bernice) of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. The body was flown to St. Edward from Nogales, Arizona for burial here. Roasary was prayed at Miller Funeral Home in St. Edward Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) from the St. Edward Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Brady officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Don Cumming, Bruce Condreay, Meal Hasselbalch, Louis Welin, Frank Weltruski and Keith Koerber.
