Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, with the Rev. Phil Gibbs and the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, with the Rev. Phil Gibbs and the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue. The Lahey Funeral & Cremation Service, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gibbs farmed all of his life in the Springbrook area, retiring in 1996. He was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in La Motte, son of Edmund and Gertrude (Entringer) Gibbs. He married his dear friend Irma M. Mesch on April 10, 1951, in Key West. He attended rural schools through eighth grade and graduated from Holy Rosary High School in La Motte. He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church, where he served on the council, St. Joseph's and Marquette School Board, was a past president of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, Extension Council, past Grand Knight of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus Council 1354 and a member of the Dubourg Assembly 1573 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Don was a 4-H leader and had served on the DAC Board for 20 years. He liked to tell stories and enjoyed camping, fishing, extensive traveling, cooking and woodworking. He was an active volunteer and an Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He is survived by his wife, Irma Gibbs, of Springbrook; a daughter, Susan (Paul) Williams, of Anaheim, Calif.; six sons, David (Tish) Gibbs, of Westfield, N.C., Charles (Laney) Gibbs, of Davenport, Mark Gibbs, of Topeka, Kan., Paul (Sonja) Gibbs, of Marion, John (Karen) Gibbs, of Spragueville, and Patrick Gibbs, of Marion; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harold (Joyce) Gibbs, of Bernard, Edmund (Karen) Gibbs, of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Carolyn) Gibbs, of Palo Alto, Calif., and Steve (Mary) Gibbs, of Bellevue; three sisters, Dorothy (Clifford) Weinschenk, Algean Budde and Mary Cheney, all of Bellevue; and a sister-in-law, Rosella Gibbs, of Farley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Gertrude Gibbs; a brother, Lloyd Gibbs; and two brothers-in-law, Eldred Budde and Larry Cheney.
