Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, Iowa, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., and a Farley American Legion service at 7:30 p.m. He was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in Bellevue, son of Edmund and Gertrude (Entringer) Gibbs. He married Rosela Mae Kalmes on Nov. 24, 1953, in St. Donatus. The couple farmed in the Bernard area for 17 years. He also worked at Western Dubuque Schools in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1992. For the past eight years he was employed with Packagin, Inc. of Minneapolis, Minn. He graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic School, La Motte. He served with the Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, and it's altar and rosary society. He also served as lector and eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus Council 2001, where he served as financial secretary and past grand knight; he also served as district deputy for the state KCs. He was a member of the 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly 1573, where he served as past faithful navigator. He also was a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656, where he served as past commander. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and driving tractors, on Marcia and Rick's farm. He was devoted to his family, and especially took great pride in his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Rosela Mae Gibbs, of Farley; seven children, Roger (Lynne) Gibbs, of Dyersville, Alan (Ann) Gibbs, of Dyersville, Debbie (Dennis) White, of Fairmont, Minn., Duane Gibbs, of Washington, Karen Gibbs, of Cassville, Wis., Jim (Cathy) Gibbs, of Dyersville, and Marcia (Rick) Funke, of Earlville; 23 grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Donald (Irma) Gibbs, of Springbrook, Dorothy (Clifford) Weinschenk, Algean Budde, and Mary Cheney, all of Bellevue, Harold (Joyce) Gibbs, of Bernard, Eddie (Karen) Gibbs, of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Carolyn) Gibbs, of Portola Valley, Calif., and Steve (Mary Kay) Gibbs, of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jason White; a niece, Lindsay Gibbs; and two brothers-in-law, Larry Cheney and Eldred Budde. Memorials may be given to the Catholic Education and Religious Vocations. The family of Lloyd would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Hermann, Dr. Vijay and Dr. Lally, their nurses and the staff at The Finley Hospital and the Wendt Regional Cancer Center for giving so graciously to Lloyd and our family over the past year.
