Read More	Donald Redfield June 12, 1925– July 18, 2010 Donald Redfield, passed away at his home, at 12:05 p.m., on July 18, 2010, surrounded by his children, wife, and a sister. Don was born in Vona, Colorado, in 1925. Services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, at 2802 Patterson, in Grand Junction, at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 2, with viewing at 10:30. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilda Maye (Bean); his son, David, of Vacaville, California; his daughters: Janet Hyde, of Kannah Creek, and Marilyn Madsen, of Cortez, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His parents, Earnest and Pauline (Dicke); stepmother, Almeta (Gilhardt); brother, Orval; and half-sister, Nedra; preceded him in death. His half-sister, Geri McSpadden, of Grand Junction/Denver, Ernestine Odelberg and Charlene Stride, of Grand Junction, survive him. Don moved to Littleton as a child, and worked on the family dairy. He graduated Littleton HS, in 1943, and joined the Merchant Marine service after graduation. His service continued until his discharge in 1946. He was proud of his service, active participant in the Western Slope Merchant Marine Veterans, making sure each of his children experienced a day trip on the Lane Victory, out of Long Beach. His best story involved the sinking of his ship, the Robert J. Walker, on December 25, 1944, outside Sydney Harbour, he complained that the crew, "Missed" Christmas on land... and spent it in a lifeboat, because the Navy was celebrating Christmas." His family moved from Denver to D Rd., in Grand Junction, during the war, and he rode in a boxcar on the train with family belongings and their cattle. Upon returning from the war, he worked various jobs, including five years in the mill, at Uravan. Moving back to Grand Junction, in 1955, he worked at Public Service, CO to retirement, in 1986. He and Wilda, enjoyed camping and the JOY (Just Older Youth) group, at the Nazarene Church, and visiting family and driving his grandchildren from their wedding to their motel, with a 'Just Married' sign, on the back of his Model A. He is missed by his family and friends, but HE looked forward to leaving behind the suffering of this world and seeing his Savior. Published in The Daily Sentinel on August 1, 2010
