Geri died peacefully, on October 2, in Evergreen, CO. She died while surrounded by family. Geri died two months after the passing of her husband of 60 years, Kelly McSpadden. An internment ceremony will be held, Oct 21st, at 3:00 p.m., at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, on D Road. Geri will rest there, with her beloved husband. A memorial service for friends and family will be held October 22nd, at 1:00 p.m., at the Grand Junction First Church of the Nazarene, 2802 Patterson Rd. Geri was born in Littleton, CO., August 7, 1932, to Ernest Redfield and Almeta Gildart Redfield. She was the third of six children, and the oldest of four girls. She is survived by sister, Charlene Stride of Grand Junction; but we are sure she is now joyfully surrounded by her parents; her brothers: Don and Orville; and sisters: Nedra and Ernestine. The Redfield family, moved from Littleton to Grand Junction, where they ran their family dairy business, on D Road. Geri graduated from Central High School, in 1950. In late 1950, she was working as a waitress in the Blue Swan Cafe, on West Main St., in Grand Junction. It was there, that she met her soon to be husband, Kelly McSpadden. They wed six weeks later, on February 3. Kelly and Geri, initially resided in Uravan, CO., where Kelly worked in the Union Carbide uranium mine. While in Uravan, they had two sons: Stephen Kelly, and Kenneth "Kenny" Duane. From Uravan, the family moved to Green River, Utah, where they lived for about eight years. For two years, Geri and sons, lived in Grand Junction, while she went to nursing school, at Mesa College. Kelly remained working in Utah, to support the family. During that time, Geri and the kids, made the round trip between Grand Junction and Green River, almost every single weekend. Kelly moved to Grand Junction, in mid 1967, where he and Geri lived, until December of 2009. About a week before Christmas in 2009, they relocated to Denver, to be closer to their sons' families, especially their two grandsons: Zachary and Shane. Geri was well known in Grand Junction, because for several years, she was a head nurse and supervisor, at St. Mary's Hospital. While at St. Mary's, she was also a bit of a pioneer, because she was one of the first hospital flight nurses, in Colorado. She flew in helicopter emergency flights and also accompanied patients in winged aircraft flights, during medical transfers. She was an avid painter, she loved her church, and she loved God. She was a remarkable and accomplished lady. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew her. We love and miss you mom, but we are glad you now rest, peacefully cradled, in God's Love and Daddy's arms. Published in The Daily Sentinel from October 14 to October 16, 2011
