Description	:	Donald “Don” Lee Uhlenhopp, age 78, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Henry R. and Lela Doreatha (Walters) Uhlenhopp on August 6, 1939, in Aplington. Don attended country school. Don worked for August Meester as a farm hand after his schooling. On November 21, 1958, Don was united in marriage with Lois Ann Hassman in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Read More	Donald “Don” Lee Uhlenhopp, age 78, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Henry R. and Lela Doreatha (Walters) Uhlenhopp on August 6, 1939, in Aplington. Don attended country school. Don worked for August Meester as a farm hand after his schooling. On November 21, 1958, Don was united in marriage with Lois Ann Hassman in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After their marriage, Don and Lois lived by August Meester where he continued to work. Don also hauled gravel. Don and Lois later moved into their current home in Aplington. In 1960, Don began working for John Deere Tractor Works in the foundry. He retired from John Deere in 1990. After his retirement, Don worked for the City of Aplington at the recycling station. Don attended Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Aplington. Don enjoyed camping and walking his dog, Flash. He collected toys, especially John Deere Tractors and cars. Don enjoyed tinkering on cars and other mechanical items. Don died Thursday, November 16, 2017, at his home in Aplington of cancer. He is preceded in death by a son, Donny Uhlenhopp, his parents; and a brother-in-law, Marlin Pruin. Don is survived by his wife, Lois of 58 years; one son, Craig Lee Uhlenhopp of Iowa Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Carol Santee of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren, Zachariah Lee Kastner and Carlye (Wes Hildebrant) Santee; three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Ashton and Natas. two brothers, Melvin (Myrna) Uhlenhopp of Ackley, Iowa and Merle (Norrell) Uhlenhopp of Aplington; three sisters, June (Clarence) Karsjens of Parkersburg, Iowa, Sharon Pruin of Aplington and Joyce Miller of Ackley. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017at the Hitesville Gospel Hall, rural Aplington, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, (319) 346-1534, and one hour before services at the church.
