Maybe that is why I have referred to myself as a Northern Southerner at heart... Son of Floyd and Jannetta (Vorrath) Stuva. Born in Adair County. Address was Fontanelle, Iowa. Received an education in a country schoolhouse through the 8th grade and spent one year in high school at Prescott, Iowa. Quit school to go to work at 15 years old, finished high school through the American School out of Chicago, Illinois, and later graduated from the American Institute of Business (AIB). First permanent job was at the Greenfield Creamery, where I made butter for approximately four years. I served on the Des Moines Fire Department for 28 years. After retirement from the fire department, I worked real estate in the Osceola and Des Moines areas. Ordained through the Full Gospel Churches International, I served as Superintendent for the Iowa District for four years. I worked through the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship for a number of years. A Laymen's organization, I preached and served as an International Director. Drafted into the Army in 1951. Had basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. From there I was sent to Korea. It was referred to as the Far East and it seemed to me to be so far east that I went west to get there. In the middle of the Pacific between Seattle and Japan I was looking out over the ocean from the deck of the ship, the Marine Adder, and I was wondering if I would ever come home again, as the war was still on and I knew that was where I was going. That night I had a dream and it was a dream of a beautiful young lady and there was an outstanding characteristic of the picture and that was the color of her hair that was a reddish auburn color. I never forgot the picture and did not know what it meant at the time. Surely it was the Lord Jesus telling me I would be home again and would have a life and a great family. I saw the picture, which was Wilma's high-school graduation picture, and I saw it before she had graduated and before it had been taken. After I met her and saw her graduation picture, I knew instantly that that was the picture I saw in the dream. She is in Heaven as of February 4th 2017 and now with our son Jimmy and waiting for my entrance. I met Wilma in Des Moines, Iowa, and after a short courtship we were married on January 14th 1954. From there our family began. We lost our first born, Jimmy, shortly after he was born. He was born on May 4th 1955. The rest of my family whom will some day join me in Heaven are: son Brian K. (Belinda) Stuva of Osceola, Iowa; daughter Diane E. (Ralph) Miller of Murray, Iowa; son Matthew L. (Tanya) Stuva of Mitchellville, Iowa; grandchildren Nick (Kimbra) Stuva Missionary in Africa, Renee Stuva (fiancé Dave Ritter) of Osceola, Iowa, Rebekah (Zach) Mendenhall of Garden Grove, Iowa, Nicole (Sean) Welch of Norwalk, Iowa, Joe (Susannah) Miller of Osceola, Iowa, Ashley (Chad) Sommars of Des Moines, Iowa. Kathryn (Alex) Rosinger of Minnesota, Christopher Stuva of Colfax, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Stuva, Ethan Stuva, Lucas Henry, Alissa Henry, Victoria Henry, Ajae Mendenhall, Kendyl Mendenhall, Anessa Mendenhall, Joa Mendenhall, Olivia Welch, Emelyn Welch, Miles Walker Welch, Cort Miller, Aylah Miller, Lydia Miller, Jade Sommars, Jasper Sommars, Winston Rosinger and expected Jordi Sommars; brother Virgil (Pat) Stuva of New Castle, Oklahoma; sister Patty Arterburn of Greenfield, Iowa; brother Dick (Donna) Stuva of Sterling, Colorado. Jesus has been a big part of my life and the lives of my family. It seems that He has saved my life so many times that I have that same question David had as stated in II Samuel 7:18-23 (29); basically, "Why, Lord, have you been mindful of me?" Jesus saved my life so many times that I can think of no other reason then I kept Him with me by praying and being conscience of His presence. Just to mention a few times simply to recognize that Jesus is able and willing to bring us into salvation if we will simply keep looking to Him. Recognizing that He gave His life in our place, served our sentence, and when we recognize His works on the cross we can be saved forever. First, at two years old, I fell two stories out of a window and survived. Only because of Jesus being with me even then. I told a friend about this one time and his response was, "It was a good thing you landed on your head, otherwise you might have been hurt." Anyway, I give Jesus the credit as this is not the only time He miraculously saved my life. While in Korea in 1951 on September 11th we made our first push into enemy territory. Out of our company of 128 men there were only 12 of us left by nightfall. A Chinese soldier took aim at me from a foxhole with a burp gun that shoots 900 rounds a minute and missed me. I can still hear the bullets snapping by my ears. Another time while crawling on my belly on top of a mountain bullets kicked dirt upon my face, yet I never was hit. I was caught in a snowstorm and laid on the ground all night while the snow covered me over and yet I was never sick or even had a cold. One more thing to prove that Jesus is our protector!! There was more; however, this is enough to show Jesus is alive and well and dwells with His people. On the fire department in Des Moines, Iowa, and on the third floor of burned out building the floor gave way and took 3/4th of the entire floor, which fell all of the way to the basement. There were twelve men with me. As I was the lieutenant, we decided to take a break and walked to the east side of the floor. I have never understood why we decided to take a break and move to the far east side of the building. I was the last man following when the floor fell away. I was taking a step forward and with one leg in the air and the other leg on the floor as it fell out from under me. I reached up overhead and was able to grab hold of a burned-out brace and pulled myself up from the floor as it fell out from under me. My question has been why? I believe the Lord led me to believe that this is the exact way He will take us through the latter days just before His return to take His people out and to set up His reign. The return of Christ is so close and just before that there will be some real hard times. A mark will be required on your hand or forehead before you can buy or sell. This is forbidden to take. If anyone has not received Jesus and His giving His life for us it is now time to do so before it is too late. We repent of our wayward ways and accept His death on the cross, a shedding of blood in our place and His promise to forgive and give us eternal life. I am born again and there has really been a change in me. So glad. Thank you, Jehovah God and our Lord Jesus Christ, for saving me.
