Gary Lissy will officiate in Grace Lutheran Church at Nunda, and burial will be in Prairie Queen Cemetery there. Leighton was born on Sept. 9, 1928, at Madison to Orlando and Bernice (Peterson) Leighton. Leighton was born on Sept. 9, 1928, at Madison to Orlando and Bernice (Peterson) Leighton. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1946, after which he served with the National guard during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska. He married Delores Schocker on Aug. 24, 1950, at Madison. They farmed in the Rutland area until 2001, when they moved to Madison. He was a member of the Nunda American Legion Post #105, Grace Lutheran Church, Lake County Crop Improvement Board and Nunda-Rutland Co-op Elevator Board. He was a 4-H leader and softball coach. Survivors include his wife, Delores of Madison; five sons, Alan (Janet) of Rapid City, Gary (Kathy) of Watertown, Timothy (Joan) and Douglas (Julie), both of Rutland, and Brian (Kelli) of Madison; a daughter, Lori (Jim) Maher of Rutland; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ruth (Hart) Erickson of Arlington, Jean Ingemansen and LaVetta (Bob) Foster, both of Brookings, Beverly Leighton and Dolly (Bill) Uthe, both of Madison; a brother-in-law, Walter Stonefield of Oldham; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Leighton of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maurine Stonefield; a brother, Larry; a brother-in-law, Adrian Ingemansen; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Hayes and Luella Halseth.
