Description	:	Donald P. "Don" White, 85, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Don was born August 22, 1926 in Foster, Nebraska to LeRoy and Emma (Bloom) White. Don attended country school grades first through sixth in Foster and then moved to Valentine before later moving to Hemingford where he graduated from Hemingford High School in 1943. He attended the University of Nebraska from 1943 to 1944 and then enlisted in the United States Navy serving during World War II from 1944 through 1946. Don was born August 22, 1926 in Foster, Nebraska to LeRoy and Emma (Bloom) White. Don attended country school grades first through sixth in Foster and then moved to Valentine before later moving to Hemingford where he graduated from Hemingford High School in 1943. He attended the University of Nebraska from 1943 to 1944 and then enlisted in the United States Navy serving during World War II from 1944 through 1946. In 1949 he married Lois Horstman and to this union five children were born. In 1977 he married Ella R. (Kaiser) Wade. Don owned and operated several businesses in Hemingford for 25 years before later working as a Clerk for the United States Post Office in Alliance for 18 years, retiring in 1988. Don was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9 for over 50 years in Hemingford. He was also a Master Mason and member of the Alliance Masonic Lodge. While in Hemingford he played and coached baseball. He enjoyed bowling, was an avid golfer and member of the Panhandle Men's Golf Club. He was also an avid football fan, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Denver Broncos and was a Colorado Rockies baseball fan. Don is survived by his wife, Ella White of Alliance; his children, Nancy Ray of Hemingford, Ted White of Alliance, Lynn (Alvie) Howell of Alliance, and Jim (Suzi) White of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; step-children, Roger (Marla) Wade of Hemingford, and Cliff (Francine) Wade of Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Breck of Belen, New Mexico; his sister-in-law, Erna White of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Sam White, brother Dallas White, brother-in-law Ed Breck, and his son-in-law, Paul Ray. Inurnment was in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance, NE.
