Description	:	Donald Patrick Beaird, 86, of Keokuk died at 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Montrose Health Center. He was born on March 17, 1927 in Keokuk, Iowa, a son to Frank and Eva Leeper Beaird. He married Charlotte Madelaine on July 10, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2009. He was honorably discharged with the rank of... Read More	Donald Patrick Beaird, 86, of Keokuk died at 6:30 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Montrose Health Center. He was born on March 17, 1927 in Keokuk, Iowa, a son to Frank and Eva Leeper Beaird. He married Charlotte Madelaine on July 10, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2009. Don served as an Underwater Demolition Team member in the United States Navy, both in the European and Pacific theaters, during World War II, for which he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class. He went on to serve an additional 6 years in the National Guard, as a Master Sergeant. He owned and operated Don Beaird Moving and Storage and later Don Beaird Trucking. He retired in 1993. Don was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a 66 year member of the American Legion Post 41 and the Last Man's Club. He was formerly a member of the Teamsters Union and the Knights of Columbus. He also taught judo classes at the YMCA and was a Master Black belt. He is survived by his son, Pat (Patty) Beaird and daughter, Cindy (Woodie) Brassil of Keokuk, IA; daughter-in-law, Dolly Beaird of Rock Island, IL; five grandchildren, Dawn, Patrick, Jason, Amy and Mike; five great-grandchildren, Alaina, Jacob, Abbey, Kendall and Adelyn; brother, John Beaird; sister, Mary Lee (Charlie) Welsh; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Davis. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son Gary Beaird; and three grandchildren, Mindy, Derek and Becky; and three brothers, Floyd "Tiny" Beaird, Wayne Beaird, and Joe Fichtenkort. A Celebration of his Life will be at 11 A.M., on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert St., with Minister Harold Stone II and Deacon Bill Cosgrove, officiating. Interment will follow at Keokuk National Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 1, 2013 at 1212 Concert Street. Memorials can be given to the Hoerner YMCA.
