Surviving him are his father, Perry B. Christiancy; three brothers, Harold of Geneva, Walter of Humboldt, Lyle of North Platte; four sisters, Mrs. Wesley Miller and Mrs. Herbert Nichols of Geneva, Mrs. Verla Coleman of Lincoln and Mrs. Gordon Nichols of Fairmont; also Miss Jeanette McNamara of Fairmont, who was to become his bride in three weeks; many other relatives and a host of friends who extend heartfelt sympathy to the relatives in the tragic, untimely departure of this kind, lovable young man. Donald received his education in the rural school of District 81, of Fillmore County, and in the Geneva High School. Upon leaving school, he became engaged in farming until about two years ago, when he accepted the position of manager of the retail service station of Barnsdall Incorporated at Eighth and G streets, Geneva. His attention to business won favor with the company, so his opportunities and responsibilities were enlarged by making him the wholesale agent also at Geneva and by adding another retail station at Sutton. He was on his way to the Sutton station when the containers of naphtha gas, which was being conveyed in his car, exploded on the highway near Sutton, causing fatal burns. A truck driver following and a farmer nearby hastened to Donald’s aid and put out the flames. He was taken to the Sutton Hospital immediately, but soon passed away without regaining consciousness. Donald was always a pleasant and accommodating young man. He had a smile for everyone. His gracious manner and spirit of helpfulness made him many friends. He will be missed greatly and will be remembered as a young man of courteous manner, clean personal habits, and friendly disposition, loved by both folk and friends. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 1936 in the Geneva Congregational Church, Rev. H. J. Plymesser, pastor of Geneva United Brethren Church officiated in the absence of Dr. Edward W. Day, the Congregational pastor. Howard Brower, Frank Brower, Ervin Weber, Clyde Moss, Floyd Myers and Fred Fisher were pallbearers. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.
