Donald R. Hartman was born on June 22, 1924, Western Douglas, Township, rural Plainfield, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Clara (Walther) Hartman. He was baptized July 20, 1924, and later confirmed on April 10, 1938 both at St. John's Lutheran Church, Western Douglas. Read More	Son of Arnold & Clara Walther Hartman Donald R. Hartman, 78, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2002, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of emphysema. Donald R. Hartman was born on June 22, 1924, Western Douglas, Township, rural Plainfield, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Clara (Walther) Hartman. He was baptized July 20, 1924, and later confirmed on April 10, 1938 both at St. John's Lutheran Church, Western Douglas. He attended country school near his home and later attended the Plainfield High School. He then helped his parents on the farm. On September 8, 1944, he was united in marriage with Elaine D. Steege at St. John's Lutheran Church, Denver, Iowa. Don farmed near Denver, Iowa, and also worked as a field manager for the Marshall Caning Factory in Waverly. In 1959, Don and Elaine moved their family to Waverly and Don owned and operated the Standard Station. He later became the manager of the Phillip's 66 Station until it closed. In March of 1984, he and Elaine began managing apartments for J & K Properties, caring for the properties and the tenants. Don was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. He loved to fish and boat, but his greatest passion was pulling skiers, with ten at one time being his record. Don loved the outdoors and enjoyed planting trees and spending time on the river. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his two sons and their spouses, Larry and Sharron Hartman of Waverly, Rick and Elizabeth Hartman of Waverly; and his three grandchildren, Tim & Stacie Hartman, Curt Hartman, and Lisa Hemingway. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his younger brother, Duane. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 6, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Kaiser-Coson Funeral Home, Waverly, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be for one hour on Friday at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly.
