Description	:	Rick J. Hartman, 61, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Sunday evening, November 10, 2013, at his home in Waverly from complications of brain cancer. Rick was born on December 6, 1951, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Donald R. and Elaine D. (Steege) Hartman. Rick was baptized on January 13, 1952, and confirmed on May 1, 1966, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Rick's family lived in Denver, Iowa, where he attended school through the 1st grade. Hartman, 61, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Sunday evening, November 10, 2013, at his home in Waverly from complications of brain cancer. Rick was born on December 6, 1951, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Donald R. and Elaine D. (Steege) Hartman. Rick was baptized on January 13, 1952, and confirmed on May 1, 1966, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Rick's family lived in Denver, Iowa, where he attended school through the 1st grade. In 1959, Rick's family moved to Waverly where he continued his education in the Waverly-Shell Rock school system, graduating in 1970. Starting in 1964, Rick worked for his father, Don Hartman at the Phillip's 66 station, and became manager of the station in the 1970's. He also managed the Phillip's station in Cresco for a short period of time in the mid 80's. In 1990, Rick started Hartman Services, a lawn care and snow removal business which he owned and operated until October 1, 2013. On October 13, 1990, Rick was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Grant) Scott. Rick was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church both in Waverly. Rick loved being outdoors, enjoying the beauty of the world and dedicating himself to making it even more beautiful. In his spare time he enjoyed researching local history, taking pictures of barns, and watching NASCAR. He had a great passion for restoring old cars, especially his 1993 Mustang. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Hartman of Waverly, Iowa; his step-daughter, Lisa (Jose) Martinez of San Francisco Bay area; two granddaughters, Sofia and Isabella; his mother, Elaine Hartman of Waverly; his brother, Larry (Sharron) Hartman of Waverly; and two nephews, Tim (Stacie) Hartman of Denver, Iowa and Curt Hartman of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hartman, on December 3, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, with the Rev. Dr. Judith Jones, the Rev. Maureen Doherty, and Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and will continue for an hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family, Cedar Valley Hospice, and University of Iowa & Mayo Clinic for research for treatment of Glioblastoma.
