Donald Robert Brundeen was born August 14, 1928 on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Robert and Edith (Erickson) Brundeen. He attended country school in Plymouth County, IA and Union County, SD. He attended 2 years of high school in Westfield and 2 years in Akron. He graduated from Akron High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army in the fall of 1946. After serving his country during WWII, he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Doris Dreeszen on May 30, 1947 at her parent's home in Plymouth County, Iowa. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa for a short time before moving to the family farm east of Westfield. In the fall of 1952, they moved to Denver, Colorado to aid in their son's health. In 1954, they moved to Akron for a short time before moving back to the farm. In 1972, they sold the farm and moved into Akron. Don worked for an implement dealer in Hawarden, IA until retiring due to his health. Don was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron for many years. He was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 in Akron, the Masonic Lodge in Hudson, SD, the Scottish Rites Bodies, and the Shrine Temple. He was a board member for Mid-Sioux Opportunity. He enjoyed going fishing and hunting. He was an avid gun collector and attended many gun shows through the years. He also enjoyed trap shooting. But most of all, he loved the times spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Doris of Akron; his 4 children: Sharen Luhr (Richard) of Pierce, NE, David Brundeen (Monica) of Carr, CO, Linda Schmoll (Ronald) of Sioux City, IA, and Nancy Roberts (Mark) of Scribner, NE; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a niece, two nephews, and many cousins in Sweden. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Arthur Brundeen; his sister: Elvera Brundeen; and a grandson: James Robert Schmoll.
