Description	:	Donald Spencer VanSteenis, son of Murray and Velma Spencer VanSteenis, was born February 1, 1922, near Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended schools in Mahaska County through the 8th grade, graduating in 1935. He married Violet Manges of Oskaloosa in 1941, she died February 1991. He attended the Open Bible Institute in Des Moines, IA for 3 years, graduating in June 1949. He was licensed to preach in 1950. He farmed many years of his life and held various other jobs. Read More	Donald Spencer VanSteenis, son of Murray and Velma Spencer VanSteenis, was born February 1, 1922, near Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended schools in Mahaska County through the 8th grade, graduating in 1935. He married Violet Manges of Oskaloosa in 1941, she died February 1991. He attended the Open Bible Institute in Des Moines, IA for 3 years, graduating in June 1949. He was licensed to preach in 1950. He farmed many years of his life and held various other jobs. After raising his family, he became a missionary to Old Mexico, helping the poor and spreading the Gospel for about 25 years. He attended and was a long time member of The Open Bible Church most of his life. He married Lucille Boggs of Knoxville, IA September 1991, and continued to work in Mexico until October 2001, after having heart surgery. He then retired due to poor health. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Violet; one son, Donald M. VanSteenis; a brother-in-law, Leonard Allgood; and a great-grandchild, Rachel Rudd. Donald is survived by his wife, Lucille of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Row Jean (Keith) Wilcox of Floris, IA; Vida (Gary) Schmerback of Des Moines; and Kathy (Mark) Duff of Springfield, OR; one son, Bill (Brenda) VanSteenis of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters: Iola (Omer) Fleck and Norma Jean Allgood, both of Oskaloosa; a brother, Bob (Mae) VanSteenis of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a step-son, Gary Boggs; a step-daughter, Linda Sisson; four step-grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren; as well as many friends and relatives. source obituary http://www.gvlfuneralchapel.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=929529
