Description	:	Donald "Don" William Boyd, 81, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Mar 29, 2011. He was born on Jan 21, 1930, in a cabin on the family homestead north of Big Timber. Later, the family moved to Big Timber where as a boy he worked as a baker's apprentice, and with his father in the family's blacksmith shop and gas station. Read More	Donald "Don" William Boyd, 81, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Mar 29, 2011. He was born on Jan 21, 1930, in a cabin on the family homestead north of Big Timber. Later, the family moved to Big Timber where as a boy he worked as a baker's apprentice, and with his father in the family's blacksmith shop and gas station. He spent his teenage summers as a fishing guide in Yellowstone Park during World War II. Don graduated from Big Timber High School in 1948, and on Sep 12 of that year he married Elva May "Dolly" Close. After attending the International Bible School in Canada the following winter, they moved to Bozeman in 1949, where they built a home in which they raised their family. During this time he worked as a mechanic and later as a carpenter. He served in the National Guard from 1951 to 1958. Then Don attended Montana State College (now MSU) where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering, a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and finally a Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1968. He went on to become a tenured professor for the MSU College of Engineering where he taught courses in the industrial and management engineering program until his retirement in 2002. Don served as director and coordinator of the I&ME graduate program, and was instrumental in the development and maintenance of their international student program. He also did research and consulting as well as authoring a number of publications. He loved education and analytical thinking. He continued his association with MSU as professor emeritus through the fall of 2010. Don's greatest passion in life was his involvement in Christian ministries. His primary focus was helping to fund the establishment of churches around the world, Bible translation and the worldwide distribution of Bibles. He was a devout Biblical scholar, and taught a Bible study in his home for several decades. Don's outreach has touched and blessed many people throughout the world. Don loved the mountains. He was a skilled tracker and big game hunter. He was at his happiest while on horseback camping trips in the Absaroka Mountains. He was an avid woodsman who climbed many mountains. Don enjoyed forsaking established trails, navigating through the wilderness using his wits and senses. Although we mourn his passing, we rejoice that he is reunited with his loving wife, Dolly, and son, Kennard. He fought the good fight, and has now gone to his eternal reward. He is survived by his brother, Gordon and wife, Beverly Boyd; son, Bill and wife, Jane (Meierotto) Boyd; grandson, Jason and wife, Michele (Mettler) Boyd; great-granddaughter, Samantha Renae Boyd; daughter-in-law, Susan and husband, Steve Newbold; granddaughter, Stephanie and husband, Lloyd McQuillan and their son, Jonah; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Kennard; his parents; and two sisters.
