Read More	Blade-Empire – Oct. 20, 1997 Donald W. Hutchinson, 75, Jamestown, died Oct. 18, 1997 at his home. He was born June 25, 1922, at Clay Center to Lloyd C. and Mary E. Absher Hutchinson. He came with his parents as an infant to Concordia where he attended schools and graduated from Concordia High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1945. He was married to Valborg "Vallie" E. Aaker June 25, 1943, at Philadelphia. He and his brother Kenneth assisted their father in an IGA Grocery Store in Concordia and in 1949 Donald bought the Bestyet Grocery in Jamestown. He operated the store for 25 years. After selling the store, he became a substitute rural mail carrier from 1975 until 1987. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church and was a past president of the Concordia Lions Club. In Concordia, he served several terms on the City Council including the last term of Mayor Council form of government. He was a council member of the Lutheran church, served as president of the church men's group and was Sunday school superintendent and was financial secretary of the Sunday school for 25 years. He also served on the planning board of USD 333 and was a member of the school board for two terms. He was a member of the Concordia City Band for many years. He served on the Jamestown City Council for 14 years and was a president of the Civic Club and Lions Club, both of Jamestown. Survivors include his wife, Vallie Hutchinson of Jamestown; two sons, Don A. Hutchinson, DVM and wife Bron of Holton and Dennis Hutchinson and wife Pam of Smith Center; a daughter, Sonja Kobberman and husband Ted of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Concordia Lutheran church with the Rev. Nile Buch officiating. Burial will be in the Jamestown Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m., Monday, at Blachly & Buoy Funeral Chapel until 8 p.m.
