DONALD WILLIAM HILGENBERG Donald, the son of William H. and Minnie Louise Walters Hilgenberg, was born October 10, 1920 at Coon Rapids. He attended schools in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High school in 1928. While in school, Don was very active in sports. On April 4, 1935, Don was united in marriage with Helen Jane Trullinger at Coon Rapids. Two children were born to this union. They were in the grocery business before returning to Coon Rapids in 1948. At that time he purchased the Ford Garage and operated Hilgenberg Motor Company until 1961. He then traded the garage for a farm and fishing resort in Park Rapids, Minnesota. The family continued to live in Coon Rapids but spent much of the year in Minnesota where Don truly loved his work. He sold off lots over the years from his resort and eventually retired in Coon Rapids where he continued to enjoy fishing, hunting and golfing all around the area. In January of 1995, Don's health began to fail and he entered the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids. Later, as his health further deteriorated he became a resident of the Friendship Home in Audubon, where he died on Sunday, June 1, 1997, at the age of 86 years, seven months and 22 days. Don was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jonathan Kent Hilgenberg; four brothers: Ed, Elmer, Walter and Lester Hilgenberg; and a sister, Adabelle Hilgenberg. Don is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, David Hilgenberg and his wife, Pamela, of Council Bluffs; a grandson, Jeffrey Kent Hilgenberg, of Council Bluffs; one brother, Roy "Bud" Hilgenberg of Ocala, Florida; two sisters: Stella Roberts of Mesa, AZ; and Esther Launer of Portland, Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
