HELEN JANE HILGENBERG Helen Jane, daughter of Frank and Mary Doran Trullinger, was born March 18, 1912, on a farm in Guthrie County. She attended country school near Coon Rapids. On April 4, 1935, Jane was united in marriage with Donald "Pood" Hilgenberg at Valley Junction. Two children were born to this union. Pood and Jane were in the grocery business in Atlantic, Ottumwa, and Des Moines, before returning to Coon Rapids in 1948. At that time they purchased the Ford Garage and operated Hilgenberg Motor Company until 1961. They then traded the garage for a farm-and fishing resort in Park Rapids, Minnesota. The family continued to live in Coon Rapids but spent much of the year in Minnesota. Jane and Pood eventually retired in Coon Rapids. Pood died on June 1, 1997. Jane enjoyed golfing when she was able, knitting in her spare time and spending time with her friends. Jane entered the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home in Coon Rapids in January of 1995. She died early in the morning at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at the age of 86 years, three months and 23 days. Besides her husband, Jane was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Jonathan Hilgenberg; three brothers: Bernard Trullinger, Leonard Trullinger and Edward Trullinger; and by two sisters: Gertrude Gilbert and May Duncan. Jane is survived by her son, David Hilgenberg, and his wife, Lisa, of Maryville, TN; a grandson, Jeffrey Kent Hilgenberg, of Council Bluffs; a sister, Bertha Hetland of Warroad, MN; a sister-in-law, Esther Trullinger, of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
