Santero, 69, of Oshkosh, formerly of Lewellen, died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh. Donava was born on May 8, 1935 in Lewellen to Kenneth and Helen (Mardis) McCormick. She grew up and received her education in Lewellen, graduating from high school. Donava later attended college in Minneapolis, Minnesota, receiving an associate degree in nursing as a lab technician. She returned to Lewellen, and worked at the hospital. On October 30, 1954, she married Vic Santero, and to this union, four children were born, Vicki, Rex, Linda and Jay. They owned and operated Vic's Lounge for 28 years. The couple later divorced. She continued working at the Plainsman and Maggie's Supper Club. Due to health reasons, she retired in the 1990s. After retirement, she lived at the assisted living in Lewellen, and later at the Garden County Nursing Home for a short period, in Hawaii with her daughter, Linda, and finally back to Oshkosh where she has resided since. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting afghans, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Donava was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lewellen. She is survived by her children Vicki and husband, Perry Van Newkirk of Kimball, Rex and wife, Diana Santero of Lewellen, Linda and husband, John Victory of Yuma, Arizona, Jay Santero and fiancé, Mindy Riedel of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Jamie (Gene) Golding of Kimball, Megan (Michael} Palmer of Sidney, Shannon Santero and fiancé, Casper Corfield of Lewellen, Shalee Santero of Lewellen, Tony (Gini) Corbin of Mullen, Dustin (Phaedra) Victory of Crawford, Jerik Victory of Yuma, Arizona, Karston Victory of Yuma, Wyatt Riedel of Oshkosh; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
