Daughter of Lilbert Thomas Kearney and Alpha Darlene Davis OBITUARY THE OSCEOLA SENTINEL-TRIBUNE Osceola, Iowa Thursday, August 24, 2006 DONNA CHARLENE KEARNEY ADAMS Donna Charlene Kearney Adams, known to family and friends as Charlene, was born Feb. 9, 1940, to Darlene Davis and Lilbert T. Kearney in Osceola. She died Aug. 13, 2006, at her home in Humeston. She was 66. Mrs. Adams lived her first years in the Osceola area, where she attended Rocky View Country School and Osceola Public Schools. Some of her favorite memories where of the Rocky View Days when she and her siblings swam in farm ponds and drove the jeep around the farm. She began singing at an early age, and she was appearing at local churches and other gatherings by age five. She became well known for her singing in the community, always appearing with her older brother, Leland, as her piano accompanist. The Kearney family moved to the LeRoy area when she was in eighth grade. She attended school there through 11th grade. There she made many lifelong friends and met her future husband. Her family moved again and she completed her last year of high school at Mingo, graduating in 1958 as salutatorian of her class. She was an accomplished singer in the school music programs and won several awards. She married Neil Adams on Nov. 25, 1958. They lived in the Des Moines area until 1961, when they moved to Orange, Calif. She was employed as a claims office manager for State Farm Insurance. The couple had two daughters, Laura and Shannon, during this time. Mrs. Adams and her family moved in 1970 to Haines, Alaska, where their daughter Erin was born in 1971. The family then moved in 1972 to Ketchikan, Alaska. They resided there until 1979, when they moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada due to Mr. Adams employment. There the couple had their fourth daughter, Sarah, and adopted a son, Jason in 1983. The family transferred to Kansas City, Mo in 1987 and they lived in Kearney, Mo until their retirement in 1998. After retiring in 1998 Mr. and Mrs. Adams and their son, Jason moved to the Humeston area and Jason Attended his final year of high school at Corydon. Mr. and Mrs. Adams ran Boxwood Bed and Breakfast from 1999 until 2005 when she became ill. She loved gardening. Her landscaping of the bed and breakfast was admired far and wide. She was a member of the Humeston Camp of Gideons Auxiliary, the Yorel Study Club and Humeston Red Hat Club. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Corydon and a devout Christian. Mrs. Adams received Christ into her life in 1966 at Orange, Calif. and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Orange. Her Christian faith was carried on by her children, all of whom are dedicated Christians, with all those who are married having Christian spouses. Preceding her in death were her parents, infant brother, Ross Kearney and brother, Leland Kearney. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Neil Adams of Humeston, five children and their famlies, Laura Wells and husband David of Hillsboro, Mo., Shannon Lowe and husband Ron and children Abby and Ethan of Plattsburg, Mo. Erin Steele and husband David and children Matthew, Alysabeth, Emily and Caleb of Leavenworth, Kan., Sarah Moore and husband Josh and baby Alison of Lynnwood, Wash. and Jason Adams of Chariton; siblings Charlotte Richman and husband Don, Carol Kearney and wife Janice and Darrell Kearney and wife Karen, all of Des Moines and Dick Kearney and wife Jean of Marshalltown, sister-in-law Althea Kearney of Chippewa Falls, Wis. and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Adams were held at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Corydon with Pastor Troy Shaffer officiating. Rose Hook was pianist, and Margaret Humeston accompanied vocalist Ed Cotley as he sang He Lives and Amazing Grace. Casket bearers were Bill Baird, Bill Carlton, Jake Cotley, Ron Lowe, David Lindahl and Don Richard. Interment was in Humeston Cemetery with Pastor Dean Meyer officiating the committal service.
