Interment was held in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, following the services. Donna Mae “Sue” Leffler, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Chrisoma West in Holdrege. Sue was born on June 8, 1929 to Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Olga (Elgaard) Philpot in Weeping Water, Nebraska. She graduated from Weeping Water High School with the class of 1945, and then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she received a Teaching/Drama and Journalism Degree in 1949. Sue was united in marriage to Don Leffler on March 4, 1954 in Texas, and was part of the United States Air Force family with her husband, Don. As an Air Force family, they lived in Tucson, AZ; Spokane, WA; Glasgow, MT; Sacramento, CA; and Oxon Hill, MD; before returning to Holdrege in 1976. After returning to Holdrege, Sue served as the Junior High School English/Journalism/Drama teacher from 1950 to 1954. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. While stationed at the various military bases, she helped to coordinate social and charitable activities for the wives and families on base. During her stay in Sacramento, she began to pursue her passion in fashion, design, and began modeling for fashion shows and charitable events. This led to eventually being named one of the 10 Best Dressed Women in Sacramento. Sue brought her love of fashion to Holdrege, and worked at several of the women’s boutiques, where she enjoyed helping everyone develop their own fashion style, modeling in fashion shows, and going to the Fashion Market in Dallas. She was a dedicated volunteer at Phelps Memorial Health Center, where she made many long lasting friends. Sue worked at the hospital for over 17 years as a volunteer with the Phelps Memorial Health Center Auxiliary. Her favorite season was Fall, due to the fact that this was the beginning of professional football games. She followed every team, especially the Patriots, with Tom Brady, and the Packers with Aaron Rodgers. Her all-time favorite player was Joe Montana. On November 27, 1989, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don. Besides her parents, and husband; Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Philpot. Sue leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: Terri Anderson and her husband, Jeff of Solana Beach, CA; Tammy Leffler of San Diego, CA; and Michael Leffler of Holdrege; three grandchildren: Joshua Roy, Jesse Hernandez, and Sean Anderson; two great-grandchildren: Aiden Anderson and Magnus Hernandez; her sister, Ginger Smith of Royce City, TX; brothers-in-law: Bill Leffler and his wife, Pat of Seattle, WA, and Bert Leffler and his wife, Mel of Lake Havasu, AZ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Sue’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Sue Leffler Memorial Fund to assist United States veterans.
