Read More	In the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday Aug. 13, 2014, Donna May (Hofferber) Wise met Saint Peter at the golden gate and said, “You’d better let me in, or else!” Yes Donna was ornery and quite bossy. Her favorite saying was, “Aw sh! She was an arduous soul who wasn’t afraid to let you know she meant business. She loved big dangly earrings, singing at the top of her lungs, whistling, Roy Rogers’ movies (without Dale Evans), Elvis, country music, Albertsons fried chicken, driving, and playing her harmonica,for which she had no clue how to play, but blew into it just the same. No one knew the difference. Donna had a contagious boisterous laugh. And if you heard it you know she was up to something. Born May 2, 1937, in Worden to Alexander Hofferber and Elizabeth (Kuntz) Hofferber, Donna was one of six children. She grew up farming the land around Pompey’s Pillar. Before the “rock” was considered a landmark, she climbed and played on it and ... gasp….scratched her name into it! At the age of 11 years, Donna May had a stroke. It took her six months to learn to walk, talk and write again. As she entered her young adult years, they told her that she would never be able to drive a car. Donna May said, “Aw sht,” and proved them wrong. In fact, when her daughter worked a summer job at the police department in 1985, she discovered the mug shot of her doing just that! She became a legal driver shortly after her arrest. It’s not surprising that Donna’s love of driving eventually lead her to meeting Louis L.D. Wise when she rear-ended his cousin. They eloped 1969, they had one gorgeous and remarkable daughter, (who is writing this obit) Kristie Lee Wise (Boelter). Louie proved to be Donna May’s reserved counterpart to her sometimes cantankerous personality but his commitment and love was unwavering. Donna lost Louie in 2011. Donna had many struggles in her life beyond the stroke, including but not limited to having lost her tonsils and gall bladder, breaking her ankle, leg and pinky finger, having a uterine tumor, hysterectomy, knee replacement, breast cancer, a pelvic infection for which she endured 13 surgeries, breast cancer again, a dislocation of her kneecap that rendered her immobile and a rare disease. She finally succumbed to blood poisoning. Let’s face it, she was a mess to the end! And she let everyone know it. She was sick and tired of this sh**! One thing Donna was not was pretentious. No, you are not going to hear about how she had a theater named after her or a statue erected in her name or that she is a Billings bigwig. She was much more. She was a mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister, cousin. Under her bossy, demanding demeanor, she was a caring, giving and a loving woman, being there when you needed her the most. She served as a mentor to her granddaughters for eating bread and butter and what it meant to play a good game of “Go Fish.” She taught her daughter what it meant to be sympathetic to others even when they are old and crabby. Donna May is survived by two brothers, Joe Hofferber and Allan (Judy) Hofferber and two sisters, Alberta (Hofferber) Grammens and Deloris (Hofferber)(Richard) Jensen; her daughter, Kristie (Wise)(Brian) Boelter; granddaughters, Megan Schultz and Chloe Boelter She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Hofferber and husband, Louis Wise. Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cfgbillings.com through “Our Families.” Memorial services are at 1 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 20, at Riverfront Park.
