Description	:	MRS. DORA PURCELL, wife of MICHAEL PURCELL, passed away at her home in Milltown on September 27. Although in failing health for the past three years, her death came suddenly, having only been confined to bed one day. The eldest of 12 children of the late NANCY (FARRELL) and THEOPHALUS CHAPAIS, she was born in Van Buren, Maine on May 17, 1862 but made her home in Milltown, Maine, where her parents resided during her younger days. DORA PURCELL, wife of MICHAEL PURCELL, passed away at her home in Milltown on September 27. Although in failing health for the past three years, her death came suddenly, having only been confined to bed one day. The eldest of 12 children of the late NANCY (FARRELL) and THEOPHALUS CHAPAIS, she was born in Van Buren, Maine on May 17, 1862 but made her home in Milltown, Maine, where her parents resided during her younger days. On January 10, 1888, she was united in marriage to MICHAEL PURCELL of Milltown, N.B. In 1938, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. A woman of quiet disposition, her chief interest was in her home and family. A devoted Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Women's League, the Altar Society and the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, MRS. PHILIP MCGARRIGLE of Calais and Mrs. Sylvester Eagan of Milltown; four sons, Raymond at home, Paul and George of Milltown, and Jerome of Long Island, N.Y.; five sisters Mrs. George McLain of Milltown, Maine, Mrs. Walter Anderson, Miss May Chapais and Mrs. Roy Davidson of Calais; and Mrs. Roy Fernald of Franklin, Maine; and two brothers, Edward Chapais of Dennysville and Clarence Chapais of Pembroke. The funeral was held Saturday morning with a requiem mass by Rev. Charles Carroll. Her four sons acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery, Milltown. (St. Croix Courier, September 28, 1944) DORA was the eldest of NANCY and THEO's 11 children. She had an older half-brother, John Silk.
