She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mason City. She loved the country, flowers and gardening. Dora Isabelle Reed was born Sept. 27, 1905, to Vannie and Bessie (Runyan) at the Doug Runyan home northeast of Mason City. The family moved to Iowa and Mrs. Dowse started school there. They returned to Nebraska in 1917 when her parents purchased a farm northeast of Mason City. The amily lived in a sod house on the farm. Mrs. Dowse attended Graystone Grade School and graduated from Mason City High School in 1925. She taught country school for nine years. Mrs. Dowse married Harold Dowse June 2, 1934, at Loup City. They farmed and ranched northeast of Mason City until retiring and moving to Ansley in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Dalene Slack and her husband, Rodger, Ansley, and Marjorie Wolititch, West Mifflin, Penn.; one sister, Inez Dowse, Heritage Hall in Broken Bow; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Bertha and Bessie, one brother, James, one daughter, Dorthy, one grandson, Alan, and one son-in-law. Funeral services were held Jan. 17 at the First Baptist Church in Mason City. Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery with Iverson Memorial Chapel in Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
