She was born on October 15, 1912 in Oakesdale, Washington to David and Lura (Weaver) Doneen, and was one of eight children. Read More	Doris Agnes (Doneen) Colvin, 102 Taught at THS and Olympia Doris Agnes (Doneen) Colvin passed away on February 11, 2015, at the age of 102. She was born on October 15, 1912 in Oakesdale, Washington to David and Lura (Weaver) Doneen, and was one of eight children. In her lifetime she saw the infancy and then increasing popularity of airplanes, automobiles, radio and television; later she witnessed the rapid changes in space travel, computers, cell phones and the Internet. Doris's early schooling was in Oakesdale and Spokane. She then graduated from Washington State College in 1935, and embarked upon her teaching career. After teaching in Eastern Washington one year, she was ready for "an adventure", and accepted a position " on the other side of the mountains", at Tenino High School. While teaching in Tenino, she met her future husband, Fred Colvin, at a community dance, and they married on November 18, 1941. Shortly thereafter, her husband was drafted and served was drafted and served in World War II. Upon his return they in Olympia, Tacoma and Grants Pass, OR, before they returned to the Colvin Homestead in Tenino, where she lived for over 50 years. She taught business education classes at Olympia High School for over 20 years prior to her retirement in the 1970's. Doris had a life-long love of learning. As someone who enjoyed lively and informed discussions, she was an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years. When she retired she took advantage of many classes offered at the Olympia Senior Center, and delighted in classes on current events. She would then lead lively discussions at home. She was always curious about the world around her. Traveling was a passion, and she and Fred visited every continent except Antarctica. She and her husband were square dancers, and Doris started tap dancing in her 80's, and in her 90's she began line dancing. She was a wordsmith and enjoyed a good pun, writing limericks (in honor of her Irish Ancesrty) and poetry. Doris was an avid Scrabble player, often taking home the coveted traveling "Colvin Family Scrabble Tournament" trophy. Doris was an independent woman who loved adventure and new experiences. She always put others before herself and lived a life of remarkable integrity. Doris leaves a legacy of courage, kindness and compassion. It is no surprise that her favorite song reflects. Her life in that "I've lived a life that's full, I traveled each and every highway, and more, much more than this, I did it my way". She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1992. She is survived by her daughter's Irene Colvin and Margaret Colvin, and her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Katherine Colvin; her grandchildren Jennifer Colvin, Sarah Bradley, Michael Reily, Ryan Connell and Kyle Connell, and three great grandchildren, Audrey, Sophie and Naomi. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Plympia West, the caregivers and therapists at Mother Joseph's Rehabilition Center, and the staff at Providence-St. Peter's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to The Senior Services of South Sound (Olympia), the Tenino Fire Department. The funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Olympia on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at noon. Burial and reception will follow in Tenino. The Rosary will be at Mills and Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 23 23.
