Pastor Michael Davis will officiate with burial in the Tilden City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Doris Arlene Carter, daughter of Rudolph T. and Wilhelmina (Hansen) Christiansen, was born on July 20, 1922 in Antelope County, Nebraska. She graduated from Tilden High School with the Class of 1940 as Valedictorian. On March 21, 1942, she married James Douglas Carter while he was on a 3-day Navy Pass. She returned to Great Lakes with him where they lived in quarters on the naval base. The couple returned to Tilden to live and raise their family. Doris, a lifetime member of Peace United Church of Christ, was active in Youth Fellowship, teaching Sunday school and Bible School. She has also held several offices in Women's Fellowship. Doris served as Cub and Brownie Scout Leader. She worked at the Bloodmobile and donated blood. She served and held offices on the Library Foundation Board and distributed library books and magazines at the Tilden Hospital for 30 years. She delivered meals on wheels, served on the Election Board and read weekly at the Tilden Nursing Home for 10 years. She died on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Tilden Hospital in Tilden. She is survived by three daughters, Doreen Kullbom (Mick) of Prescott, AZ, Cathy Negus (Dave) of Tilden, NE, LuAnn Carter (Bill Thoendel) of Hoskins, NE; two sons, Don (Lynn) of Tilden, NE, Hurley William (Peg) of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Donald Christensen; and an infant sister.
