(Swanson) Lindgren, was born November 27, 1926 in Watertown. She attended Watertown public schools, graduating from Watertown High School in 1944. She married Charles (Charlie) Kosier on August 23, 1947 in Watertown. Doris was a wonderful stay-at-home mom to her five children. Kosier, age 81, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at a Clear Lake nursing home. Doris Arlene Kosier, the daughter of Carl V. and Alma V. (Swanson) Lindgren, was born November 27, 1926 in Watertown. She attended Watertown public schools, graduating from Watertown High School in 1944. She married Charles (Charlie) Kosier on August 23, 1947 in Watertown. Doris was a wonderful stay-at-home mom to her five children. She was employed for nine years as a teacher's aide at Garfield Elementary School. Additionally, she served as the bookkeeper and helped run Charlie's Candy & Chips, working with her husband for 12 years until they retired in 1987. Her life was full of activities besides her family. Mrs. Kosier loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking daily, sunbathing, camping and watching and feeding birds. As a big sports fan, Doris was a strong supporter of the Watertown Arrows football and basketball teams. Even after her own children graduated from high school she regularly attended games. Doris bowled for 59 years and was an excellent league bowler. She was inducted into the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame. Her strong, quiet faith in God was expressed in service at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. She sang tenor in the church choir for over 55 years. Earlier in her life, Doris was involved in Circle, the communion committee and kitchen helper for weddings and funerals. She and Charlie delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Doris had one green thumb and one white thumb. Her green thumb was evident by the beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables grown in her garden as well as a variety of indoor plants that thrived under her care. She would can pickles and jams every fall. Many people, especially her family, enjoyed her white thumb. She was a wonderful baker of scrumptious breads, pies, cakes, cookies and was well known for her "Swedish Tea Rings". Mrs. Kosier kept her mind keen by solving crossword puzzles, word games such as the cryptoquip and playing board games with her family. After retirement, the Kosiers enjoyed 11 winters in Arizona and during that time she would efficiently assemble numerous jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered as the loving, caring and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend that she was and continues to be in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Gladys Williams and Virginia Rund; her brother Lester Lindgren; and her granddaughter, Aimee Kosier. She is survived by her loving family that she was so proud of, her husband of 60 years, Chuck of Watertown; her children, Timothy (Betsy) Kosier of Lincoln, NE, Jill Harris of Aurora, CO, Nancy (Mark) Flint of Aberdeen, Jeff (Jolette) Kosier of Watertown, and Heidi Namken of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren, Brian Kosier, David Flint, Amanda Flint, Angela (Tim) Padgett, Alexia Kosier, Josiah Kosier, Greg Namken and Brittany Namken; her sisters, Viola Scholz of Madison, WI, Phyllis Johnson of Alabaster, AL, Shirley (Gene) Shields of Visalia, CA, Lois (Jerry) Roesch of Ft. Collins, CO and Joanne (Bob) Hubbard of Lincoln, NE; her brother-in-law, Richard (Lou Ann) Kosier of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Evie (Bill) Fiebelkorn of Watertown, Patricia Kosier of Katy, TX, Arlene Woodring of Pasadena, TX, Pat Kosier of Watertown; and a special family friend, Sister Augusta Johnson. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 6, at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be Brian, Alexia and Josiah Kosier, David and Amanda Flint and Greg Namken. Arrangements by Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel.
