Interment was held in the Turner Co. First Presbyterian Cemetery in Davis. Doris (Bruns) Jibben was born Nov. 29, 1921 on a farm south of Lennox, South Dakota. The daughter of Henry and Jennie Bruns, she attended rural elementary school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1939. After graduating from Freeman Junior College, she began an elementary teaching career in area Lincoln County schools including Burma, Sunnyside, Long Creek and Dayton. A life-long learner, Doris attended numerous classes and workshops, earning her elementary education certification from Sioux Falls College. On Nov. 12, 1943 she was united in marriage to Harold Jibben at Turner County First Presbyterian Church Parsonage of rural Davis. They lived on a farm near Davis until 1960 when they built a new home south of Lennox. In 1989 they retired and moved to a residence at 609 South Main Street in Lennox. She remained in her home following the death of her husband in April 2004, and only recently moved to an apartment. Doris was a life-long member of Turner County First Presbyterian Church, serving as choir director, Sunday School teacher, officer for Presbyterian Women's Organization, and Sunday School and Bible School leader. She was active in community affairs, volunteering and serving on the Lennox Ambulance as a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. A current member of the Lennox Senior Citizen Center, she enjoyed organizing plays, delivering meals, and participating in the RSVP Advisory Council and L.E.E. activities. Doris enjoyed music, reading, writing poetry, plays and family histories, and spending time with family and friends. Her love of education extended throughout her life and included substitute teaching, tutoring, working as a school secretary and volunteer. She was a life long member of the South Dakota Retired Teachers Association. She valued education and encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue and complete advanced educational degrees. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, one in infancy and Irene Goeman in 1954 and one brother, Harm Bruns in 1996. Doris is survived by daughters Judy Rops (Arlin) of rural Lennox; Carol Heim (Jim) of Spooner, Wisconsin; son James Jibben (Jane) also of Lennox; and nine grandchildren: Steve (Tish) Rops, Tom (Jodi) Rops, Ben Rops, Bryan Heim, Curtis Heim, Karla Heim, Chris Jibben, Natalie Storm (Jeremy), Elizabeth Jibben; and five great-grandsons: Justin, Charles, William, Trenton and Jayson. Other survivors include her sister Hannah Smidt and brother John Bruns (Sylvia), many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
