Description	:	Doris Elaine (Softley) Bailey was born to Ralph and Irene (Clifford) Bobbitt on January 17, 1930 on a farm west of Geneva, and passed away January 10, 2006 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 25 days. Read More	Doris Elaine (Softley) Bailey was born to Ralph and Irene (Clifford) Bobbitt on January 17, 1930 on a farm west of Geneva, and passed away January 10, 2006 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 25 days. She was one of seven children in the family. After the death of her father in 1937, the family moved to Geneva. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Geneva. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1947. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Kerl in Geneva. On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ralph Softley of Fairmont. They farmed in West Blue Township until 1958, and then moved to the Grafton area. In 1967, the family moved into a new home on the farm that Ralph's parents had for many years. To this union were born five children: Gary, Danny, Jack, Linda and Bill. In 1955, their first born, Gary, died of a brain tumor at the age of 3 and one-half years old. Doris was a devoted farm wife of nearly 45 years. On May 25, 1994, her husband, Ralph passed away. Doris joined the United Methodist Church in 1949 and served on various church boards and committees and taught Sunday school for many years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women; a member of the West Blue Extension Club, a member of Chapter A.M.P.E.O. and long time member of her beloved bridge club. In later years, she participated in water aerobics and ballroom dancing. It was at a dance that she met someone special to her. On January 16, 1999, she married Eldon Bailey of Crete. They made their home in Fairmont. They both found new joys in each other's families. Doris was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and a special aunt to her many nephews and nieces. Her happiest times were spent attending her children's and later her grandchildren's activities. She especially enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included refinishing furniture, picking strawberries along with making gooseberry jam. One of her special talents was making peppernuts to share with family and friends at Christmas time. Doris always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Irene Bobbitt; her first husband, Ralph Softley; son Gary Alan; grandson, Jackson Daniel; sisters, Helen Bobbitt (Died in infancy), Margaret Carlson and her husband Clarence;, Berniece Plettner and husband Joel; brother Ralph Bobbitt and sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Bobbitt and Helen Bobbitt; parents-in-law, Ernest and Sarah Softley; brothers-in-law Fred Worthington and Owen Cartwright; nephews Bob Cartwright, Doug Worthington, Joel Plettner, Jr.; niece, Mary Crank; and step-grandson Seth Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Eldon Bailey of Fairmont; her children Danny and wife Arlene, Jack and wife Vicki, Linda and husband Don, and Bill and wife Joan; eight grandchildren, Jamie and fiancee' Cameron Demuth, Cassandra, Shaundee and Logan Softley; Shane, Angela and Brady Bristol and Mitchell Softley; great-granddaughter, Reagan Demuth; sisters, Frances Cartwright and Winona Worthington; sisters-in-law, Norma Bobbitt, Dorothy Kauhl and husband Herb, Muriel Anderson and husband Rolan; step-children Scott Bailey and wife Becky, Danny Bailey and wife Amy Beth, Julie Rohe, Amy Haberman and husband Stephen, and step-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Bailey, Josh, Janelle, Shanna, Christina, Curt and Drew Bailey, Willie and Shauna Rohe and Natalie Haberman; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, at 10 a.m. at the Fairmont Community Church, with Rev. Dr. Raponzil Drake and Rev. Curt Coddington officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha accompanied the congregation who sang "Hymn of Promise" and "Stand By Me." A mixed quartet--Sandra Schepers, Ron Isley, Don and Judy West sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Blest Be The Tie That Binds." Pallbearers were Mitchell Softley, Shane Bristol, Scott Bailey, Rod Rose, Steve Haberman and Bob Tomanek. Honorary pallbearers were Doris' grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Graveside services and interment were at the Fairmont Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal January 18th, 2006 page 7. Daughter of Ralph and Irene (Clifford) Bobbitt. Married June 5, 1949 to Ralph Eugene Softley. Married January 16, 1999 to Eldon Bailey. Doris is buried with her first husband, Ralph. Lot Owner: Ernest and Sarah Softley.
