Description	:	Emily Doris Jessie Barton was born the first child of Frederick and Eliza Emily (Greenyer) Barton in Portslade, Sussex, England on January 16, 1919. She immigrated with her parents, arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 30, 1920. Her father was a butcher and had been in Canada previously returning to England where he married Eliza. They settled in Brownsburg, Chatham Township, Argenteuil County, Quebec. Another daughter was born and Jessie became a sister to Dorothy born on August 13, 1920. She immigrated with her parents, arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 30, 1920. Her father was a butcher and had been in Canada previously returning to England where he married Eliza. They settled in Brownsburg, Chatham Township, Argenteuil County, Quebec. Another daughter was born and Jessie became a sister to Dorothy born on August 13, 1920. Her parents brought Jessie for baptism to the Anglican Church on April 10, 1921 in Lachute, Québec, Canada, In 1939, Eliza along with Jessie and Dorothy returned to England. Jessie and Dorothy intended to get their mother settled and return to Canada. In September 1939, World War II broke out in Europe and they were unable to return. Jessie worked for the war effort as a machine operator making parts for the spitfire airplanes. In 1950, she returned to Canada. Her sister moved to San Francisco in 1956. Jessie visited and met her future husband Cliff Swedlund. They were married in 1961 and lived in San Francisco. On June 22, 1965, Jessie gave her Oath of Allegiance and became a U.S. citizen in San Francisco. They made their home there until 1977 when they moved to Bismarck, ND. Jessie died January 31, 2018 at Bismarck at the age of 99 years. A memorial service was held in the Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck, ND and her remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the Lakeview Cemetery, west of Kenmare, ND. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Poulin, 2 nieces, a nephew, and a great-nephew.
