Description	:	Doris I. Speirs, 88, of Hot Springs, SD, formerly of Milbank, died January 2, 2001, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home. Doris (Stevenson) was born Juy 4, 1912, in Andover, SD to George S. and Bertha W. (Olson)* Stevenson. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and later graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls with a degree in teaching. She taught in Sioux Falls until 1946, when she married Waldo A. Speirs, 88, of Hot Springs, SD, formerly of Milbank, died January 2, 2001, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home. Doris (Stevenson) was born Juy 4, 1912, in Andover, SD to George S. and Bertha W. (Olson)* Stevenson. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and later graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls with a degree in teaching. She taught in Sioux Falls until 1946, when she married Waldo A. Speirs. After teaching, she managed Speirs Pharmacy in Milbank from 1956-1986, following the death of her husband March 27, 1956. Doris attended the Parkview Methodist Church in Milbank and the United Churches in Hot Springs, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Eastern Star. She was a member of a bridge club, and enjoyed gardening. Doris was a strong woman who raised three children alone for over 10 years, and ran a business for 24 years. Survivors include her children, James W. Speirs of Rapid City, Janet Speirs of Hot Springs, and Mark Speirs of Deadwood; one grandson, Mark Speirs of Sioux Falls; and one sister, Ruth Nygaard of Pierpont, SD. Funeral services were held January 4, 2001 in Hot Springs at United Churches and January 5, in Miller at the United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Miller GAR Cemetery, next to her husband. *Mother's maiden name as Olsen on her memorial. Edited from Miller Press obit - January 17.
