Doris was born in Humboldt, Kansas on February 3, 1917, the daughter of Robert & Grace (Andruss) Hamm. She attended schools in and around Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1935 and Iola Junior College in 1937. Read More	************************** Published March 2, 2009 - Chanute, KS Doris Ladine Holmes, 92, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac, Kansas. Doris was born in Humboldt, Kansas on February 3, 1917, the daughter of Robert & Grace (Andruss) Hamm. She attended schools in and around Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1935 and Iola Junior College in 1937. On August 24, 1941, she Doris was united in marriage to Arl Holmes of Elsmore, Kansas. They moved to Chanute in 1951. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1993. She taught in a rural school near Humboldt and in Humboldt Grade School. Doris worked as a PXB Operator for Neosho Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1989. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years, was active in the First United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service, which became the United Methodist Women in 1972, Chapter DD P.E.O., St. Cecilia Music Club, some study clubs, and was a Red Cross Auxiliary Volunteer at Neosho Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a sister, Julia Blattner of Frontenac, KS; a brother, J. Robert Hamm of Wichita, KS; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arl; and one sister. Funeral services will be held March 6 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, KS. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, KS. Memorials in her name may be made to First United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. **************************
