A 1 p.m. burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery following a luncheon. Doris Mae Brodie was born Sept. 6, 1914, to Frank Montgomery and Dora (Smith) Frey. She was delivered by her father at her grandparents farm house between Nevada and Ames. In 1919, her family moved from Milford Township to Jesup, and in 1921, moved back to a farm in Milford Township. She graduated from Milford Township school in 1932. She married Ralph Brodie March 16, 1935, in Nevada. She was active with school, church and community activities, with her family being the most important part of her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nevada and Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, cards (eat or smell), travel and fishing. They drove their camper from the Yucatan to Alaska. They spent their winters in Texas and in Florida and most of the summer fishing and enjoying the cabin they built in the 1950s near Wabigoon, Ontario, Canada. The cabin continues to be enjoyed through the third generation of family members. Doris and Ralph lived on the farm until they retired from farming in 1974 and moved to Nevada. In 2000, she moved to Silvercrest Assisted Living in Ames and in 2005 to Bethany Manor in Story City. She is survived by her two children, Doradene (Clarion) Thompson, of Story City, and Duane (Barbara) Brodie, of Ames; one brother, Bill (Skip) Frey, of Arizona; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph, on April 13, 1983; and two sisters, Jean Lee and Marjorie Strother.
