Description	:	Doris Rose (Deike) Groen, 93, of Shell Rock and formerly of Plainfield, died on Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2016, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes. Doris was born on September 9, 1922, in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the daughter of Hugo and Hertha (Schmadeke) Deike. Doris moved with her family back to Plainfield, Iowa, where she attended the Plainfield School System and graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1941. Read More	Doris Rose (Deike) Groen, 93, of Shell Rock and formerly of Plainfield, died on Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2016, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes. Doris was born on September 9, 1922, in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the daughter of Hugo and Hertha (Schmadeke) Deike. Doris moved with her family back to Plainfield, Iowa, where she attended the Plainfield School System and graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1941. Doris was united in marriage to Irvin Vern Groen at First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley on December 1, 1942. Doris helped Irvin on the farm, worked one year at the Egg Plant in Plainfield, and then spent 20 years at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, retiring in 1980. Irvin died on January 5, 2007, and Doris moved into the Assisted Living at the Shell Rock Care Center, later moving into the Full Care side. Doris was a longtime, faithful member of First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling in their motor home and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Doris is survived by her four children and their spouses, Perry (Norma) Groen of Waverly, Veryl (Bonnie) Groen of Waverly, Rhonda (Gary) Brase of Plainfield and Brian (Sheryl) Groen of Mingo; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Hertha, two brothers, Richard and Leonard Deike and one sister, Norma Bienemann. Services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ – Pleasant Valley, rural Plainfield, with Pastor Peter Wenzel officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
