Marquardt Death called home another of Crawford county's pioneer ladies Monday when Mrs. Dorathea Gehring died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Marquardt, of Court street in this city. For nearly fifty years she has been a resident of Crawford county and with her husband came here when the county was primitive and wild. By hard work and close attention to their business they accomplished much of this world's goods, helped develop the country and raised a family. She was a kind lady, a helpful wife and a devoted mother and the sorrow of her many friends marks the esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Dorathea Gehring, nee Priehs, was born April 20, 1842, in the province of Brandenburg, Germany, and died in Denison, Iowa, on Monday, February 7th, at 9:45 a.m. She was 84 years, 9 months and 17 days of age at the time of her death. In March, 1864, she became the wife of William Gehring in Germany. To this union were born three children, one of whom, a son, died in 1895. The living are: Mrs. Minna Marquardt and William Gehring, both of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Gehring departed from the Fatherland in June 1863 and came to the United States, locating at Chicago. This city was their home up until 1880. February 14th of that year, they came to Crawford county and started farming in Hanover township. They continued their farming operations until 1903, when they retired and moved to Denison. Her husband departed this life May 14, 1922, and since his death she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Marquardt. Besides her son and daughter, she leaves to mourn her death nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was held this afternoon...Rev. Wm. Frese officiating...Morgan township cemetery. The Bulletin extends the sorrowing relatives a sincere sympathy and condolences.
