Dorothy Ann (Adams) White was born April 24, 1931, to Carl and Ella (Hickey) Adams on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa. The family moved into town in 1937 to operate several businesses. Dorothy graduated from Woodbine High School in 1948. She continued her schooling at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa and finished at Creighton University to become a registered nurse. Dorothy Ann (Adams) White was born April 24, 1931, to Carl and Ella (Hickey) Adams on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa. The family moved into town in 1937 to operate several businesses. Dorothy graduated from Woodbine High School in 1948. She continued her schooling at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa and finished at Creighton University to become a registered nurse. In August of 1953 Dorothy married Robert White at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. Bob and Dorothy moved into the Heft Funeral Home in February of 1954. The couple worked with Bob's uncle, Frank Heft. In 1963, Bob and Dorothy purchased the funeral home, and in 1973, the couple purchased the Barrett Funeral Home in Dunlap, Iowa. In addition to the funeral home, the couple also had the furniture store. They retired from the funeral industry in 1980 selling the business to Phil and Anita Fouts.
Dorothy's chosen profession was nursing and she worked at the Woodbine school from 1976 to 1984. Her adult life was devoted to working with her husband in business and sharing the public in business and promoting the various community activities. Dorothy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and P.E.O.
Dorothy died Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home attaining the age of 78 years, seven months, and 24 days.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob February 24, 1994; and two sons, William Robert on May 4, 1990; and Thomas Edward. She is survived by her son, John Michael White and his wife Candy of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Cloy, Katherine, Andrew, and Carlee; and one great grandson, Aaron; and many other relatives and friends.
