She married John Edward Darcy Aug 30, 1953 in Yankton, SD. This was after John Edward (Mike) returned from the Korean war in Jan 1952, where he served in the Marine Corp. To this union 3 children were born; Mary Sue, Kathleen, and John L Darcy. All 3 of her children still live in or near Yankton, SD. They also had an unnamed infant which was stillborn. In 1974 John retired and he and Dorthy moved to to Harlingen, Cameron County, Texas. They lived there a couple of years and then returned to Yankton, SD. Dorothy's husband John Edward (Mike) died Nov 3, 1990 very suddenly and unexpectedly. In November 2012 Dorothy entered a nursing home in Yankton, SD. She does hope to be able to come home by spring 2013. She was able to return home in Jan 2012, returned to the hospital in March and died on March 4, 2013. The memorial service is scheduled for March 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Cremains will be buried at a later date. Dorothy Darcy Published: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 Yankton Press and Dakotan Dorothy Ann Darcy, 81, of Yankton died Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton. Private family memorial services will be held with the Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, at a later date. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is assisting with service details. Dorothy Ann was born September 4, 1931, in Yankton, to Lawrence & Marie (Mines) Ryan and was the youngest of six children. She attended school at Sacred Heart School, Grove School and Mount Marty College. Dorothy married John E. Darcy on April 30, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church, Yankton, SD. To this union, four children were born: Mary, Kathy, John and a stillborn son. She was employed at Dales, MTron, Stockmen's Livestock and South Dakota Human Services Center, until retiring. They bought and remodeled houses and sold fireworks for many years in Yankton. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, garage sales and spending time with her family. She would do whatever she could to lend a hand to anyone in need, family or not. She is survived by her son John (Cathi) Darcy of Yankton, SD; daughters, Kathy (Darcy) Brewer and Mary Darcy, both of Yankton, SD; grandchildren: Crystal Jensen, Michael Brewer, Michael Darcy, Patrick Brewer, Patricia Darcy and Robert Darcy; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son, brothers: George, James and Patrick Ryan, sisters, Mary Lanning and Margaret O'Connor.
