Dorothy Bell (Blincow) “Dot” Manley, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford), passed away being welcomed into the arms of Jesus, with family by her side on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Dot was born July 16, 1922, on the family farmstead near Oxford, the second of four children born to Clyde and Louise (Baily) Blincow. She attended rural elementary school, and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1940. From there, Dot received teacher’s training at Kearney Normal College, and then taught in rural schools in the Oxford and Edison areas. While she was teaching at School District #37, she met the man of her dreams, William A. Manley. On June 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Bill Manley following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, after serving in WWII. Together, Dot and Bill farmed and lovingly cared for their three daughters. Dot was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church for over 81 years, where she taught Sunday School, VBS, and helped with youth groups and mission studies for children. She was also a member of church circle groups, and neighborhood clubs. For years, Dot served in various capacities with the auxiliary of Walker Post Manor, was a 4-H leader of the New Era Cardinals, and was a life-long learner, taking up knitting as well as researching Christmas customs from around the world for her annual Christmas tree open house. She was employed at the Oxford Floral Shop, as well as Meader’s Floral & Gift Shop, and R & F Department Store, where she used her creative abilities. She was a part of the family craft business, taking her wares to various craft shows. Dot was also a poet, and enjoyed sharing her words of encouragement with family members. The family favorite was, “My Angel in Blue Jeans” written for her loving husband. She was also a fabulous cook, was known for her “best ever” dill pickles, and numerous canning projects from her huge garden. Along with the farm came raising chickens, and helping with the other livestock. Dot thoroughly enjoyed anything pertaining to her family, and hosted numerous gatherings for birthdays, holidays, and deer hunting season. She was a compassionate caregiver for her aging parents, and was always ready to help out with the care of her grandchildren as well. She was concerned for the well-being of others, making sure everyone had enough to eat, and was taken care of, regardless whether they were family, friends or neighbors. She always had a smile on her face, was gracious, and kept her sense of humor to the end. Greeting her in heaven were her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and May Manley; her brother, Lauren Blincow and his two wives: Ruth and Marie; a sister, Lois Lind and her husband, Bob; brothers-in-law: Ingle Glendenning, and Darryl Donner and his wife, Mary; sisters-in-law: Darleen Denholm and her first husband, Lewis Heller; Floreen Swanson and her husband, Howard; and Gloria Lind; as well as a host of other family. Those left to cherish her memory include; her loving husband of 71 years, Bill of Holdrege Memorial Homes; three daughters: Kathy Wood and her husband, Ed of Ogallala, Nebraska; Pam Murdoch and her husband, Pastor Stan Murdoch of Kearney, Nebraska; and Jane Goding and her husband, Tim of Oxford; five grandchildren: Ed Wood and his wife, Shelly of Placentia, California; Dr. Nathan Murdoch and his wife, Tiffany of Grand Island, Nebraska; Emily Jacobs and her husband, Dr. Kellen Jacobs of Norton, Kansas; Will Goding and his wife, Stacie of Grand Island; Ann Sauer and her husband, Bobby of Atlanta, Georgia; 12 great-grandchildren: Camryn and Carsyn Wood; Bennett, Maxwell, Evelyn, and Rutheah Murdoch; Teyah, Oakleigh, and Quinten Jacobs; Charlotte Goding; and Maddux and Luther Sauer; one sister, Ila Jean Glendenning of Kearney; one brother-in-law, Bud Manley of Gulf Port, Mississippi; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
