Description	:	Dorothy C. Gabel, 97, formerly of Topeka, died Monday evening, September 5, 2005 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was born on October 17, 1907 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Ida (Phillips) Smith. After graduating from Oskaloosa Schools, she attended Kansas University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority. On July 11, 1930, she married Lawrence M. Gabel in Oskaloosa. The couple moved to Topeka in 1945 and bought the Penwell Funeral Home. When the state took the old Penwell Funeral Home, they built the Penwell-Gable Funeral Home at 10th and Lane.... She was born on October 17, 1907 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Ida (Phillips) Smith. After graduating from Oskaloosa Schools, she attended Kansas University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority. On July 11, 1930, she married Lawrence M. Gabel in Oskaloosa. The couple moved to Topeka in 1945 and bought the Penwell Funeral Home. When the state took the old Penwell Funeral Home, they built the Penwell-Gable Funeral Home at 10th and Lane. Upon retirement, the Gabels sold the funeral home to their employees, and they in turn sold it to the Newcomers of Kansas City. Lawrence preceded her in death in June, 1977. In June, 2003, she moved to Green Bay to be with family. Dorothy taught in the Oskaloosa Public Schools for two years. She was a past President and member of Chapter as of P.E.O.; past President of Westside Forestry Club; a past matron, a Grand Representative, a Grand Page and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a founding member of Countryside Methodist Church. Survivors include one granddaughter: Jean (Craig) O'Connor, a grandson: John Gabel (Connie) Haller and their mother, Shirley Ann Haller; and a grandson, Scott Gabel; several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a special nephew, Jim Rhine. In accordance with Dorothy's wishes, private graveside services will be held at Holton Cemetery, Holton. Lyndahl Funeral Home, Green Bay, WI and Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka, are serving the family.
