Description	:	Dorothy Elizabeth Story Kahler Dorothy Elizabeth Story Kahler, the 5th child of Bertha Totton Story Beauchamp and Joseph Daniel Story, was born July 27, 1924 in Union Township, Gregory County, Herrick, South Dakota. She passed away August 25, 2007 at the Winner Regional Nursing Home. Most of her childhood was spent moving from home to home, as times were extremely hard. Read More	Dorothy Elizabeth Story Kahler Dorothy Elizabeth Story Kahler, the 5th child of Bertha Totton Story Beauchamp and Joseph Daniel Story, was born July 27, 1924 in Union Township, Gregory County, Herrick, South Dakota. She passed away August 25, 2007 at the Winner Regional Nursing Home. Most of her childhood was spent moving from home to home, as times were extremely hard. The family moved from Herrick to Todd County, SD, on to Mellette County, SD and eventually back to Herrick. In 1937 the family had a tragic automobile accident, which took the life of their father, Joseph. The family worked hard and stayed together with the help of neighbors and friends. In 1941, her mother married Ed Beauchamp and the two of them continued raising their families together. On Aug. 27, 1939 at St. Paul's Lutheran Mission Festival, held at Turtle Butte Hall, Dorothy met the love of her life, Leonhart Harry Kahler. Leonhart and Dorothy were united in marriage January 14, 1942 at the Colome Lutheran Parsonage. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith Jume 1, 1943. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her children and a dedicated partner to her husband on their family farm, south of Colome. They were blessed with fourteen children: JoAnn, deceased (Darrel Pochop) of Colome, SD; Delorus (Monte Krizan) of Dallas, SD; Marlene (Arlo Meyer) of Humboldt, SD; Robert (Karen) of Castle Rock, Colorado; Glenda ( Dennis Olson) of Plains, Montana; Loretta ( Steve Johnson) of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; Ronald (Robin) of Greenwood, Nebraska; Katherine (Ronald DeMers) of Colome, SD; Judy (Bob Hotz) of Sioux Falls, SD; Bonnie (Monte Vavra) of Mableton, Georgia; Ruth (Kevin Osborne) of O'Neill, Nebraska; Karen (Dale Emme) of Millboror, SD; Barabara Whitfield and friend John Poras of Alliance, Nebraksa; Glen (Julie) of Colome, SD. Dorothy loved gardening, canning meats and vegetables, baking cinnamon rolls and buns, cooking large meals, playing bingo, volunteering at the Colome Legion, organizing and attending family reunions, and she especially loved spending time with her friends, family and annual hunting guests, who became like family to them. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leonhart, thirteen of her children, 39 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. one brother, Bud (Terry) Story of Worthing, SD; three sisters, Melba Schilling of Carter, SD; Vera Maier of Norfolk, Nebraska; and Joyce Songer of Bassett, Nebraska; one stepbrother, Don Beauchamp of Parkson, SD; three step-sisters, Bernita Odenbach of Bonesteel, SD; Goldie Hysell of Platte, SD; and Pearl Schwarder of Kennewick, Washington; sister-in-laws; Leota Songer of Bassett, Neb; Lydia Story of Colome, SD; Viola Story, Adeline Bender and Marie Kahler of Winner, SD; Erna (Darol) Kinzer of San Diego, California; Mable Lehman of Appleton, Wisconsin; Martha Bender of Marshfield, Wisconsin; and Rose Katzebue of Kansas City, Kansas; a brother-in-law; Bill ingram of Texas; numberous nieces and nephews; and special friends who have touched her life: Melvin and Liz Cahoy of Dallas, SD, Margaret Pochop of Oldham, SD and Kathy Ingle of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ed Beauchamp; a daughter, JoAnn Pochop; a son-in-law, Jim Osborne; grandchildren, Laura Kahler, Justin DeMers and Derek Vavra; great-granddaughter Adeline Hotz; a sister Ruby Ingram; brothers; William, Glen, Jasper and Ernie Story; stepbrothers; Lyle in infancy, Wayne and Ralph (Bud) Beauchamp; stepsisters;Lorene Sangster and Ferrel Durfee.
