Dorothy Esther (Lundvall) Young, 94 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on December 1, 2021, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Dorothy was born northwest of Holdrege in Phelps County, Nebraska on August 20, 1927, the oldest of three children, born to Glen and Violet (Moline) Lundvall. Through the tenth grade, Dorothy received her education from Wallace public school in Wallace, Nebraska and later attended and graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1945. On June 27, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Dwayne Young at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. The couple were blessed with three children: Dennis, Susan and Bradley. The family made their home north of Atlanta, Nebraska. Dorothy tended to the home raising the children until they were all grown and out of the house. From 1967-1972 Dorothy worked at BD. She also was a Drape maker for Gregory's Carpet's in Holdrege for several years. Dorothy was a member of the FCWM White Cross Group and the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, where she was very active. She knew the Bible inside and out and was a true Disciple, teaching and sharing God's word with all and was one of the best prayer warriors. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, sewing, playing cards and checkers with her family and friends, most of all she loved to cook baking thousands of chocolate chip cookies to share with everyone. Dorothy played the piano for many years and at the age of 65 she took lessons to play the organ. Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Aundra Young; her two brothers: Donald Lundvall; and Dean Lundvall and his wife, Marita; one sister-in-law, JoAnn tenBensel and her husband, Richard; and one brother-in-law, Neil Young. She is survived by three children: Dennis Young of Holdrege, Susan Stroup and her husband, Steve of Holdrege, and Brad Young and his wife, Teresa of Red Cloud, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Michelle Young; Stacey Young; Melissa Young; Dillon Young; Mark Stroup and his wife, Marlene; Brian Stroup and his wife, Lacey; Brandon Young and his special friend, Brealynn Lockhart; Brianna Young; and Brady Young; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Donna Lundvall; and Marilyn Young; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
