Dorothy was born in Waverly, Iowa, on June 20, 1929, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Bye) Helmecke. She was baptized in her home on July 27, 1929 and was raised primarily by her grandmother, Rena Bye. Dorothy was born in Waverly, Iowa, on June 20, 1929, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Bye) Helmecke. She was baptized in her home on July 27, 1929 and was raised primarily by her grandmother, Rena Bye. After graduating from Waverly High School in 1947, she was united in marriage to Donald Reid Fisher on December 10, 1948 in Waverly. The couple made their first home in Waverly. After a brief move to New Hampton, they settled in Janesville where they would raise their two children. Donald passed away on August 29, 1995, and Dorothy continued to live in Janesville. Dorothy was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She enjoyed cipher and jigsaw puzzles and trips to the casino, especially later in life. She enjoyed watching all three major sports teams in Chicago; the Cubs, Bulls, and Bears. Her grandchildren and great granddaughter provided endless joy; if she wasn't baking or cooking she would be found playing cards or games right alongside them. Dorothy is survived by one son, Dennis Fisher of Wheaton, Illinois, and one daughter, Debra (John) Schlimmer of Janesville, three grandchildren, Christine Schlimmer of Janesville, Leanne (Jay) Kimble of Janesville, and Thomas Schlimmer of Beale AFB, California, and one great granddaughter Zoe Kimble of Janesville. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, and a brother in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12th, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Denny Hanson of Nazareth Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the Janesville First Responders and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
